ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

PURCHASING TOPICS:

  • What does it mean to "Make an Offer?"  It means you don't have to pay the advertised list price of a painting.  Instead, within reason, you can name your price, negotiate, bargain, or "Make an Offer" to us on any painting that is available through True African Art.com.
  • If I can make an offer, why do you list a price under each painting?  The listed price is a guideline for the price range of a painting.  It thus helps you make a reasonable offer based on that price.  Top

  • Do you really have a Lowest Price Guarantee?!  Yes, with an additional 10% off!  Confirm the exact deal on the bottom of our web pages.   Top

  • What is Pay Pal?   Pay Pal is a third party company website that is the worldwide Internet Standard for secure online purchasing.  You do not have to sign up or be a member of Pay Pal to use it.  The free service keeps your financial details from us, instead passing onto us securely just your shipping address and actual payment.   Top

  • I'm okay paying the list price you display for a painting.  How do I get it?  Easily!  Just go to our Store, locate the artist name from the drop down menu.  Once you are on their page, click the painting's title you want, then click "Add to Cart" and follow the steps through our secure checkout area where you can pay via Pay Pal or with your credit card directly on our site.  For complete, exact help on this topic, read the instructions below.   Top

  • Is purchasing from your website secure?  Yes, as it should be!  Our Shopping Cart Checkout area employs banking industry SSL https internet encryption standards.  This means your personal and financial information is confidentially safeguarded and protected once you start filling it in.  For Pay Pal orders, Pay Pal also uses the same security standards as our checkout and more.  Top

  • What other payment options do you have if I don't want to make an online transaction?  Call us at 1.914.602.8037 to have us process your order over the phone or you can contact us to send a USA money order or set up a USA or international based bank wire transfers.  All transactions will have to be processed in full before your art is delivered.  Top

  • Can I make payments for my paintings in installments over time?  Yes, with 0% interest! Just contact us!   Top

  • What credit cards do you accept?  Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and Diner's Club.   Top

  • I live overseas.  Can you call me with an order I want to make?  Yes, for free!  Contact us to set up a time for us to call you.  Top

  • What is your Satisfaction Guarantee/Easy Returns Policy?  If for any reason your expectations are not met on a painting you purchase, you can return it within 60 days of purchase, 5 days for the few artists we are on consignment with.  You will receive a full credit or exchange for the painting.  Our Easy Returns page has the complete details.   Top

  • How do you make sure the paintings get to me from your few consignment artists that hold them?  We own and hold 90% of our African paintings for sale.  We have about 5 African artists whose paintings we sell, but do not hold or own.  When we receive an order from you for these paintings, the African artists who made them send them out to you from where they live.  No need to worry though. True African Art.com is in a trusted relationship with these artists.  We interviewed them extensively before entering into signed contractual agreements with them.  We found them to be serious, honest, and mature artists that share our business principles.  Their contracts also have strict processing procedures that protect you as a customer. For example, we do not release the payment to them that you give to us until their painting arrives safely at your doorstep.  Also, they have to ship the painting within 2 days of us notifying them it is ordered.  Their shipping costs are included in the price of their paintings.  Among other safety nets, we also have instant communication with them through phone and video chat.  We stand by these few artists on consignment and if there is any problem with your order, rest assured, we will make it right.  Thank you for trusting True African Art.com.    Top

  • How does my purchase support the artists you represent?  We purchase most of our paintings directly from our African artists.  When you buy a painting from True African Art.com, our stock naturally gets lower as a result.  Eventually, we must buy more paintings from the artists.  Thus, it is really you who enables the recycling pattern of our business with artists because it enables us to repeat buying more paintings from them.  Our purchase from the artist provided by your purchase with us not only rewards an artist’s talents, it also brings extra care to their families that makes a difference in the not very easy economy of Africa.    And you own a lifetime's worth of a beautiful painting.  So everybody gets something in return!     Top

SHIPPING TOPICS:

    • Are the paintings shipped from America?  Yes.  90% of our paintings we acquired in Africa and we hold them near New York City, USA for worldwide delivery.  The other 10% are held by African artists on consignment and are securely mailed to you from the artists' location.  See here for more information on our consigned artists.  Top

    • Do you really offer Free Worldwide Shipping?  Yes!  All of our paintings qualify for free standard shipping worldwide through the US Postal Service.  In the cases of our few consigned artists, shipping is also free through a standard European carrier or the US Postal Service.  Top

    • Do you offer expedited or express shipping?  Yes!  USA orders can get priority, express, or overnight shipping through the US Postal Service, UPS, or Federal Express.  International express deliveries are available in our Checkout through UPS and Fed Ex.  They are charged to you at the carrier's rate, so we do not profit from shipping costs to you.  For US Postal Service international express shipping, the cheapest international express service, please contact us.

    • How long does it take for my paintings to reach me?  Usually less than a week within the USA.  And about 1-2 weeks for international deliveries.  Top

    • Do you profit from shipping costs?  No.  Free Shipping is free to you and for express shipments, we do not take profit from their quoted costs.   Top

    • Will my painting(s) be insured?  Yes, when you request it or automatically at our cost for larger orders of 4-5 paintings or more.  Since 2004, in our experience with sending out African paintings, none have ever been damaged or lost.   Top

    • How will you pack my paintings?  Very carefully.  Depending what painting you purchase it will arrive in either a hard mailing tube wrapped with strong packaging tape or through a hard envelope, again secured with strong packaging tape.  The packages will be double checked for stability and protection before leaving our hands.   Top

    • Will True African Art combine my paintings in the least amount of packaging?  Yes!  Top

    SHOPPING CART SUPPORT

    • What do I enter in the quantity field of the shopping cart?  Since the paintings are all originals, and we only have 1 of each, you should only enter 1 in the quantity for each painting.  If you enter more than 1, the page will, by default, return it to 1.  The only exception to this rule are our Blue Rhino Maps.  Since they are the only prints on the site, if you want to order more than 1, you can enter up to the amount we have in our inventory, which is listed in their description.  Top

    PAINTING MEASUREMENTS AND IMAGES TOPICS:

    • What specifications do you use for including borders in the pictures of the paintings?  Most pictures of paintings on the site do not include their borders, as these borders will be hidden when you get the painting framed by a third party. Some paintings, however, have their large borders measured in their total, but cropped out in their online pictures, such as some paintings by Martin Bulinya or Albert Lizah.  These are meant though to be framed with these borders.  Contact us with any questions or to receive additional photos of paintings that would include their border.   Top

    • How close to "in person" are the pictures you take of the paintings?  Many people say that their painting looks better in person than it did online!  Our pictures of paintings are taken with the utmost care so as not to give you, our customers, a false representation between the actual painting and its digital picture.  Note however, that due to light, there may be slight differences.  If you want more details on how a painting may look prior to your purchase, you can receive additional photographs of it or see it "live" through the Skype video chat option.  Just e-mail us to set up a viewing time!   Top

    • What's up with the watermarks, your copyright name, on the paintings and videos?  They are there so that our copyrighted content is sourced to True African Art.com.  The watermark is on the photograph of the painting, not of course on the painting itself.  Our free sharing policy has details on this question.    Top

    MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS:

    • How do I contact you with a question I have?  Please visit our contact us page for all the ways to reach us.  Top
    • Why do your web pages content seem cluttered or pushed to the bottom?   This is a cause of your computer settings not being optimized for our Display Resolution design, which is 1024 x 768.  To fix it, you can use your web browser's "View" menu to Zoom in or out until the items line up in an organized fashion as they were created.  Also be sure that your browser window is maximized to fully extend to all four corners or your screen.  Or, you can go to your computer display resolution settings and set them to 1024 x 768.    For Windows 7 your display settings can be found in the Control Panel ~ Appearance and Personalization category ~ Display ~ Adjust Screen Resolution.  In a Windows XP operating system, go to: Control Panel ~ Display ~ Settings ~ Screen Resolution.  For Macintosh computers, go to:  System Preferences ~ Display.  .  Top

    • Are all your paintings original?  Yes, all are painted by hand, each by African artists living in Africa.  Blue Rhino Maps, however, are the only prints on the site and we thus have a copies of each country map.   Top
    • Do your paintings come framed or do you offer framing?  No. This is because of high transportation costs incurred by the weight of framing and the fragility involved in paintings that are shipped framed.  It's actually to your advantage because you can choose exactly what kind of frame you want to match your home or office decor.   Top

    • Are additional prints of original paintings available for purchase?  No, at this time we only sell our artists' original works.   Top

    • Does True African Art.com have a catalog or a gallery location?  No.  Our online gallery acts as our catalog.  We do not have a physical gallery store.     Top

    • I am around the New York City area where you live.  Can I see your paintings in person?  Absolutely!  Just let us know!  Even if you live far from us, through Skype video chat we can show you a "live" view of the painting.   Top

    • Can I share the content on your website or use it for research, charity, or for commercial use?  If you would like to reuse any of our content for FREE SHARING that is NO PROBLEM with us.  Just please give us credit by keeping our watermark in the image and linking to us through your site.  To share our videos, embedding code is found on YouTube.com by searching for "True African Art."  Commercial use of content requires the permission of True African Art.com and/or the painting's artist.  If we find any of our content or rendition of our content, including commercial use of our images, text, any biographical information that is unique to our site, or Gathinja's Women Bottle Figures actual design at a Internet or physical store whose purpose is in any way retail or for profit, note that you have you have infringed on our governmental copyright registrations and we will follow suit.  Please contact us instead for these purposes.   Top

    • I am an African artist.  How can I be featured on your site?  See our Be on the Site page. There is no fee to apply or to be featured.  Top
